NorthWest Crossing Recieves Award of Merit for Master-Planned Community of the Year
Bend, Oregon – NorthWest Crossing today announced the receipt of the Pacific Coast Builders' Conference (PCBC) Award of Merit for Master-Planned Community of the Year. The award was part of the annual prestigious Gold Nugget Award program, which honors creative achievements in architectural design and land-use planning for residential, commercial and industrial projects. The neighborhood was one of four to receive the award, which accepts entries from 14 Western states and from every international country.
"With all the careful planning that went into the development of NorthWest Crossing, we are pleased to be recognized by one of the top award programs in our region," said David Ford, general manager for NorthWest Crossing. "Many of the communities we were competing against were built on a much larger scale in urban areas and yet we held our own due to NorthWest Crossing's aesthetic merit, innovation and planning effectiveness."
In its 45th year, the Gold Nugget Awards program is the premiere event of the annual PCBC. Gold Nugget winners share one common denominator: excellence and innovation in addressing complex design/build issues. Program winners are featured in BUILDER magazine, a national publication for the housing industry.
NorthWest Crossing's master plan was developed in partnership with Walker Macy, a land planning company from Portland, Oregon. Based on the principles of new urbanism, primary goals of the plan included connectivity to existing road and pathways, retaining mature Ponderosa pines on the property and creating a pedestrian-friendly neighborhood, while integrating commercial and retail businesses, schools and parks.
The Gold Nugget Awards were born in 1963 at American Builder, for many years a national magazine of the building industry. They were conceived expressly for PCBC, to recognize builder/developer excellence throughout the 14 Western states. Almost immediately, the Gold Nuggets became known as "Best In The West," an accurate description of their trend-setting qualities and geographic reach. Journal Scope, the magazine of the National Association of Home Builders, joined PCBC as program sponsor after American Builder, publishing selected winners through most of the 1970s. Since that time, BUILDER has been the most prominent magazine to co-sponsor and publish Gold Nugget winners.
